This family garden had become difficult to manage because of its challenging levels and tired landscaping. We created a concept plan for new retaining walls and steps to best divide the garden into practical and enjoyable spaces.
Generous, well lit steps lead to first a cosy seating area with flexibility to house a dining table. Further up the garden is a large lawn area which will allow the family to entertain friends around a fire place.
Beyond this is a flexible growing space for fruit bushes and vegetables before finally reaching a secluded ‘woodland’ area for peaceful contemplation.
Large blocks of planting are carefully positioned to give lush views from the indoors, the shrubs and perennials will help protect the soil and lock carbon back into the ground. The borders are also designed to preserve habitats and create wildlife corridors.
Rendered block walls and pale clay pavers were selected to create a light and airy feel. We presented 3D renders of this design to help communicate the complex levels.
