A large scale planting scheme designed to provide food and habitat for birds, bees and insects and look beautiful throughout the year in this front garden.
We were invited to look at this large garden to create a masterplan to be developed in stages, the priority area was the large front lawn which only served as overflow parking. Our environmentally minded clients are passionate wildlife lovers, and so a mixture of trees, hedging and herbaceous plants were planned.
Invasive species were removed, followed by a ‘no dig’ strategy to preserve the existing soil structure. We added many tonnes of composted material to create a deep mulch for the 300m2 planting area.
Young beech whips were planted which in time, will develop into sculptural hedges to form the backdrop for the softer planting which unfolds and changes through the seasons.
